'Electric Shock' for Theatre Delicatessen's 'Pandemic In The City Festival', July 10th-11th, 2021

You say 'you're spying on us' and we say: 'how much?'

My play 'Electric Shock' written and commissioned for Theatre Delicatessen came about slowly but surely, with me sort of deciding to do everything but the top tier acting my cast delivered - in picture three they are left to right: Michelle Luther as CEO, Marina Johnson as Civilian 1 and Will Stevens as Civilian 2. I directed, cast, wrote and stage managed. And I've still not recovered. It was Amazing.

What followed was a traditional and non traditional take on the minutiae of what I believe is behind the massive data harvest that's occurring right under our noses. Audiences were led promenade style through three scenes where every cast member got to play the CEO, and some scenes were available to experience in person, or as a literal fly on the wall through a secret livestream. See and be seen - it's become natural to us all.

"When your body doesn't play ball, and the bucket list looks more in focus than ever, what experiences do you choose to last you the rest of life's regret? a young woman gets a diagnosis. It's not serious enough to limit it, but unfortunately, enough to change it."

"A bold satirical take on the art world and surrounding industry - an industry that decides what's art and what's not - and worse, who to crown. One woman takes the art scene with a stunt the likes of which you've never seen."

"We thought it was absolutely glorious as a piece: angry and funny, completely distinctive and wonderfully written. In particular, we adored its highly original use of language cross-cultural references and the brilliantly sketched characters (it reminded us of both Caryl Churchill and also 'Two Man Show')."

"Despite being a brief extract, Vote Revolt is fiercely current and has some seriously interesting characters armed with a script that is brimming with potential. One could see Vote Revolt potentially succeeding as a timeless bold, youthful voice once fully developed, and we can only hope it manages to do so in the near future."

"Very interesting – wanted to see/know more. Clever script and good representation of the dangers social media can present. Would like to see it developed into something a bit dark/ more thriller-y. An interesting twist on the usual ‘male’ internet grooming story."

"And of the three, Act Two is now my favourite. I love the dynamic between cool Katie and baffled Liam. It reminded me a bit of Lenny and Ruth in The Homecoming. Their subtextual interactions are both obscure and deliciously direct. I completely believe in them - more than anything it feels like you've let your natural instinct kick in."
